Jerry Bruckheimer Currently Working on The Script for National Treasure 3 With Nicolas Cage
National Treasure was an unexpected critical hit that made $347 million worldwide, but the sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was more successful than the first one, taking in $457 million worldwide.
The domestic gross of Book of Secrets was especially impressive considering that director Jon Turteltaub decided to film the movie in Hawaii (instead of Orlando, Florida) and that it did not have the benefit of a holiday weekend opening (it opened on a Wednesday).
Cage explained things while speaking to The Huffington Post:
“There was a time when Disney wanted to make a third one and I said, ‘No, I’m not going to do it.’ I know there’s a lot of people who really like those movies, but I was really anxious to do something else because I’d done three or four of those.”
During a chat with a reporter on the red carpet of the Los Angeles premiere of The 355, National Treasure start Diane Kruger said this.
“If they call me and they have a great idea then I’ll do it. I don’t think we had a great idea. I don’t think we had a bad idea either. It’s just that we didn’t have a great one. I would love to work with Nick again. He is a lovely person.”
